A signal surge protector (SSP) is an electrical protection component used to protect signal lines and terminal equipment from lightning strikes and transient surges. Under normal circumstances, a signal surge protector exhibits high impedance, with no current flowing through it. However, when a lightning pulse or transient surge voltage occurs, it rapidly changes to low impedance, discharging the excess current to the ground, limiting the voltage at the equipment end and thus protecting it from damage.
